Italy is a country of 60 million people spread throughout 20 diverse regions, 107 provinces and thousands of towns and villages. Each of these places has their own (rather long!) story that is worth learning. The millenia of settlement by people of different ethnic groups and faiths has created a rich cultural heritage. From the fall of the Western Roman Empire to the Unificiation of Italy 1400 years later, each paese was free to develop traditions and customs that were distinct from their neighbors across the valley or on the other side of the mountain.
We’ll help to bring some of those unique traditions alive and discuss the festivals, faith, and history that still influences Italian culture today.
